Infrastructure, Equipment & Facilities Support
Infrastructure, equipment and facilities support is a key prerequisite for ensuring adequate Biorisk management. BT SMC Ltd has partnered with Biomedical Engineering Solutions Ltd to fulfill agenda.

Technical Capacity
Technically with BioMedical Engineering Solutions Ltd, we have proven experience in design, installation and commissioning of HVAC systems for Biocontainment and Biological safety cabinets of all classes, with extensive links with both local and international suppliers for both materials and equipment used for these projects, our personnel are adequately trained in the USA, certified to install and commission, validate, calibrate, carry out scheduled maintenance, as well as repairs of these systems. We have our own test/(re)-certification equipment for both the biosafety cabinets and HVAC system. Our extensive network with both local and international suppliers enables us to start work almost immediately which is a key requirement for emergency situations. The waste management systems can include the construction of incinerators at some facilities. Other facilities can transport waste to sites where an incinerator is available For the procurement of equipment, consumables, reagents and other material relevant to implementation of biosafety and biosecurity practices in the context of vaccine R&D&M and associated research and in context of infectious disease out brake, using our vast experience in laboratory supply chain, we identify vendors to ensure supply of high-quality equipment and a continued availability of consumables and reagents using standing orders. We train personnel in laboratory supply chain and inventory management to ensure there is no stock-outs or expiries and as a result, a continued smooth flow of laboratory activities. We identify training needs and provide targeted training in biosafety and biosecurity in topics such as response to emergencies, blood-borne pathogens and specimen handling including transportation. We support the drafting of general laboratory SOPs As far as laboratory decontamination and incident response is concerned, we provide a comprehensive lab incident response kit. We provide sops and supplies for regular decontamination of the labs.
Available Resources
Resources available to us include but not limited to: a fully flagged team of mechanical, civil, electrical, Biomedical engineers who work closely with scientists, this blend of engineers has gained hands on experience and mastered the skills required for seamless project delivery from design concepts, designs, design reviews with scientists, equipment and material sourcing, installation, commissioning, user staff trainings and maintenance. All equipment for construction of civil structures, metal fabrication, electrical installation, inspections and testing, HVAC systems and Biological safety cabinets testing and certification, decontamination for both large space (fogging machines) and vaporizers for biosafety cabinets are available. All works are carried out in conformity with NSF-49, EN12469:2002, WHO or any other local and international preferred standards in harmony with manufacturer’s recommendation Our Biomedical engineering team has been servicing and repairing laboratory equipment for over 20 years, we provide engineering support to over 90% of all research laboratories in Uganda with most of them accredited by CAP or other accreditation bodies. Our call–off order of project works response is normally 72 hours and for emergencies for systems breakdown is 2-6 hours
